Today I was thinking about new years resolutions and why 80 percent of them fail by Valentines day. I’ve come to a simple conclusion as to why – they are all based on selfishness. Think about it, the most popular new years resolution is to lose weight. Losing weight itself is not a selfish thing, but if you look at the reasoning behind why that choice was made you might find that the person wants to look desirable and wants attention. Why would God want to help that person help someone else to stumble. If the resolution isn’t going to honor God, why would he help you? Even people who try to do some great humanitarian good may find trouble getting help from God if their heart isn’t in the right place and all they are seeking is a pat on the back and a ‘good job’. Most things you can’t do on your own, so why then should you take all of the credit for conquering a major goal. You shouldn’t and you probably won’t.

Like it or not, I’m going to begin this blog thing. This first one will probably be somewhat short as time is an issue tonight, but here goes nothing.

I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine who then blogged about our conversation and I thought that I would write sort of a rebuttal. The conversation involved women. I commented that without the technology that we have today, women would have to be at home simply because they would be the baby’s only source of food. I wasn’t saying that it was wrong or that women were in some way less than men, just simply that they would still be at home. The blogger blew my comment a little out of proportion. The technology that I was talking about specifically was the breast pump and baby formula. Without these two things, a mother would have to stay at home. AND A WOMAN STAYING HOME WITH THE CHILDREN IS IN NO WAY A LESSER ROLE THAN THAT OF A MAN WHO DOESN’T. Just to clear that up.

Now for the controversy. My wife recently enrolled in a Women’s Studies course so I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the subject. I’ve come to a couple of conclusions or theories about women that may put most of the people taking that class on edge, but that never stopped me from speaking my mind so I guess it shouldn’t stop me now.

If you think women and men are equal you are ignorant. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t have equal rights, but there are certain things that men as a whole do better than most women, as well as things that women as a whole do better than most men. Can we agree on this issue? Good. I will continue. One of the things that women are better at is nurturing children. I’ll bet if you ask most healthy couples with children which parent is the better nurturing parent both the father and the mother would say the mother. Woman have a way of bonding with there children that men don’t have- breastfeeding. It’s different than just feeding. If you don’t believe me, ask a capable breastfeeding mother and you’ll get your answer. It amazes me to watch the way my wife and my daughter can interact and bond like that. It’s something that looks extremely rewarding and I can see that it is. If I were to be a stay at home dad I’m sure that my daughter would grow up just fine, but after seeing it I think that I would be robbing my child of being able to bond like that. I’m not saying that there aren’t other ways of bonding. I can bond with my child in other ways, but none that are like that. It’s something that I wish that I could do.

I know that this post is just a “Goulash of Thoughts” but I don’t have time to edit it tonight. Sorry.

I created a theory. Feminism seems to have taken a new meaning in the world. When I think of it I think of it as a woman’s right to have the same rights as men. But what it has turned into is wanting a kind of role reversal. I’m not saying that it’s going to end the world or anything, but it’s not good. What about the children? Breastfeeding is by far the best most healthy way a for a baby to be raised. It provides babies with antibodies, nutrition, reduces the chances of childhood obesity, raises IQ and the list goes on and on. Why would you want to take that away from your child. The mother plays a major role in a child’s life. Why wouldn’t you want that?!?! I want that. I want to have that ability. I know that this has basically turned into a breastfeeding thing, but its something that is incredibly important. And there are a lot of people who call themselves feminists that look down on women who choose to work at home. I’ve come up with a theory about these extremists. They are overcompensating for feelings they have. Much like the gay gay-basher. I could be wrong, but maybe I’ve got something there? Again, I’m sorry about the lack of organization, but I have to be up in the morning and it’s 1:30am already. I’m not going to add structure. Take it as it is and appreciate it.

Goodnight.
